Yellow Gold Engagement Rings

I like to do things the old fashioned way sometimes and so when I decided to propose to my now wife, I decided to go the route of yellow gold for her engagement ring. In recent years it seems as though the popularity of white gold has skyrocketed and now yellow gold has become a thing of the past. To hopefully help try to revive yellow gold a little bit, I decided to investigate engagement rings that featured a diamond on top of a nice yellow gold band. My challenge proved more daunting than I had imagined because of the number of jewelers that switched almost entirely over to white gold to keep up with demand. In the end it took a little perseverance of online hunting to find what I was looking for.

I opted to go with a very simple yellow gold band with a small diamond on top to give to my wife. I planned the day out for weeks ahead of time and decided to take my then girlfriend to the beach for a picnic. As she reached into the picnic basket she realized that there was a ring box sitting on top of all of the tinfoil covered sandwiches. She opened it up and read my proposal letter inside and began to cry. And the best part of all? Not only did she say yes to me, she also told me that she was thrilled that I got a yellow gold ring and not one of the newest white gold ones.

Rose Gold Engagement Rings

Many people, especially in recent years, have been looking for something new and different when they are preparing to propose to their girlfriend. Some people choose to do it in different ways, like jumping off a building together, while others choose to change up the stones used in the ring for something more colorful. However, there is also the ability to change the color of the ring that you’re going to give her completely by simply using a colored gold.

For many years, white gold has been the most popular metal type among engagement rings. This can be attributed to a number of factors, such as the clean looks, the ability to accentuate the diamond’s brilliance and color and the overall look and feel of the white gold. Nevertheless, many people are becoming tired of the same old “white diamond, white gold ring” routine and have begun to explore other avenues of alloyed gold. Some of the most popular alloys of gold are white, rose and green gold, each of which have the gold and another metal (or two) in them.

When dealing with rose gold, it’s important to look at the redness of the gold. The deeper the red, the more copper was used in the smelting process and the less actual gold will be present. In any event, many rose gold pieces can be accentuated with other stones or simply topped with white diamonds for an almost perfect look. The costs of these rings will generally be much lower than those from any other spectrum in the gold family as the copper they contain drives the costs of the metals down; you can expect to pay anywhere between 5% and 20% less for a rose gold ring as opposed to a yellow or white gold ring.

What to Know Before You Purchase a Gold Engagement Ring

[Facebook] [Twitter]

Buying a gold engagement ring for your (soon to be) significant other can be quite a tricky task, especially if you do not know what to look for prior to shopping. Every year thousands of temporary bachelors head out to look for the perfect engagement ring for the night that they pop the question. Unfortunately, a vast majority of these individuals will overlook a minor detail and not have the entire event go over as smoothly as it could. If you are planning on popping the question soon but are unsure of how to go about choosing the engagement ring, here are a few things that you should know beforehand;

Don’t buy into the ’2 months salary’ myth.

It is common knowledge that any bachelor planning on popping the question should spend around 2 months salary on the engagement ring. In all actuality, it is up to you and you should only spend an amount that you are comfortable with within your current budget. The 2 month myth was actually created by the worlds leading diamond company, and you can imagine that they do not have your best interests at heart on the matter. Plan ahead, and only spend what you feel is feasible given your current economic situation.

Remember to shop around before making your purchase.

You will be shocked when you see the price range between seemingly similar engagement rings. Jewelers are notorious for overcharging individuals who do not know what they are looking for when they walk in the door. Make sure that you are properly educated and that you know what you are looking for prior to entering the jewelers. It is also a good idea to check out the prices from other stores before making your purchase. In short, you should never buy a ring on your first trip to any store because you should be doing a thorough check on pricing to make sure you are receiving the deal that you think you are.

Gold Engagement Rings for Everyone

[Facebook] [Twitter]

When I met my fiancé I quickly learned that just because I enjoy yellow gold immensely, doesn’t mean that everyone else does. This led to problems when it came to picking out rings. I was all for the classic yellow with white diamonds, but she wanted something different, something that would stand out from all of her friends rings.

So the research and shopping began. I was astounded at the immensity of color variations and sometimes transformations that gold could have. Although it would never be pure gold, it was still an acceptable 18k 14k and 10k gold alloy and many were, to say the least, quite striking. My fiancé suggested that I buy her a green gold ring so that she could have her favorite color on at all times. This would have been okay, except for the fact that I had already planned for her engagement ring to contain emeralds and I figure that it would add too much green and turn it a sickening color.

Finally, after reading about the green, yellow, blue, purple, black, white, rose and grey gold alloys that were available for jewelry, I decided that a black and white gold twisted band would look great with channel set diamonds and emeralds backed with a light blue gold. Admittedly, this isn’t something you can find at your local jewelry store so you will need to find a goldsmith or two that are willing to put in the hours and effort of creating these one of a kind gold rings.

Different Types of Gold Engagement Rings

[Facebook] [Twitter]

When you first decide to buy an engagement ring, you may know that you want the band to be made from gold. But what you might not know is that there are many different types of golds to choose from. Here we’ll break them down for you so that you can be sure to choose one that you will be happy with, and that she will be happy wearing on her finger for the rest of her life!

The first gold you might imagine when you think of that perfect wedding band is yellow gold. This gold is found naturally and is sold in different karats. A 24-karat gold is the closest that you can come to pure gold, while 10-karat is the lowest in purity that you can get.

There are also white gold bands and white gold blends that you can buy. White gold is a mixture of yellow gold, nickel and palladium. White gold blends are made from the same materials but some parts of the gold are painted to give it an even more unique look. Both white golds and white gold blends are usually protected with rhodium alloy to protect it from chipping and scratching.

Platinum is the last type of gold but it’s also the most expensive. While many people think that platinum is just a very high grade of gold, it’s actually an entirely different metal that has about double the density of regular gold. And because of this, platinum is usually about 2.5 times the price of other gold.

When you choose a gold engagement ring there is no doubt that you are choosing one of the best metals around! But one of the best things about gold engagement rings is that among the many different golds available, you definitely have a lot of room for choice!
